Thai Night 17/10/08

A day (& night) full of THAI.

We had Thai lesson from 12 - 2pm. After which it was Thai food action @ Thai Noodle house beside Hwa Chong with Khun Daryl & Khun Mingyuan. Didnt really appreciate Thai food during all those years spent at bukit timah. Only in love with Thai tom yam after tasting what a real tom yam should taste like in muu baan (village) sun charen. Aniwae Thai food was good though it was a bit ex ( it costs us 15 bucks each =( ) & we went back to school to do our Thai compre & then it was time for THAI night!

Our hosts for the event ( not guests! Monica was too nervous and said we are glad to be your guests for tonight. keke!!) [Left to right: Aeron, Huiting & Monica]

Aacaan Kung's overture dance performance. She's really talented! =)

B5 playing a Royal composition to show their profound love and gratitude to their homeland and His Majesty King Bhumibol. A presentation was shown at the same time to illustrate the King's love for the people. Though I'm not a Thai, the performance really touched my heart.

NUS Thai Music Ensemble and Thai 5 students' combined performance - Mother Snake แม่งู

And the dek dek ( kids) acting out the Mother snake game, which is the Thai version of our "Eagle catch little chick" game or 老鹰抓小鸡. Finally we understood how silly we were trying to explain to the Maeyao kids how to play this game. We didn't know how to explain the game in Thai & ended up telling them it's a game of mad dog trying to catch the chicks.

aacaan kung and B5's performance including Thai folk songs, pop and rock! Cool! =) I was surprised to see people bringing garlands for this event. & of course our talented aacaan received lots of them.

Our aacaans! At the end of the Thai night was the wai khruu ceremony. It is a traditional Thai ceremony to pay respect to the teachers and to thank them for the hard work. I had read about this ceremony from Richard Barrow's Thai blog ( http://www.thailandvideoblogs.com/content/view/36/29/ ), but this is the first time I've seen it and participated in it. We were given little flower garlands and we went up to stage to present to our aacaan to thank them for the hard work. Thank you aacaans!!

Aacaan Tukta who's always so cheerful & her wide smile & laughters never fail to brighten up my 8am tutorials in Thai 2 and the difficult Thai 3 writing class. And that's Khun Daryl AKA mEEw (cat), my Thai 3 classmate

Phii Ying Er, Ah xiao Huiting & me!

A magical night of Thai food, Thai language, Thai dance, Thai songs, Thai culture, Thai people & people in love with Thai ...

สนุกมากมากค่ะ!!
